Darren Zhu

Darren Zhu is a scientist, technologist, and filmmaker from San Francisco with a B.A. in Biology from Yale University. He has co-founded and advised several synthetic biology and computational biology startups, including Hexagon Bio, Enevolv, and Synbiosys. Darren has also led short film and research projects funded by the Thiel Foundation, Gates Foundation, Ethereum Foundation, Protocol Labs, and Berggruen Institute. He was recently a resident at UnionDocs, a Center for Documentary Art in New York, where he worked on projects around the intersection of technology and film, including a workshop with Google’s Artists and Machine Intelligence group on documenting the AI landscape. He was also a winter 2023 Woodward Resident in New York, and the 2024 Fellow with the Planetary Scholars & Artists in Residence Program at the Justus-Liebig-Universität (JLU) in Giessen, Germany.
