Ends of Science

June 2023 | Made in collaboration with Will Freudenheim and Imran Sekalala at the Antikythera Design Studio

The rise of science imbued with artificial intelligence heralds a profound shift for the foundations of scientific inquiry, which may lead to the acceleration of epistemic overhangs, where empirical gaps emerge from new discoveries, and epistemic underhangs, where theoretical gaps emerge from new discoveries. To resolve these epistemic gaps requires new tools from the field of mechanistic interpretability to probe and understand artificial intelligence as a kind of model superorganism.
